Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of October 25, 2011 on information provided to consumers, consolidates and updates two fields of legislation on labeling:
- The general labeling of food products, regulated by the directive 2000/13 / CE.
- Nutrition labeling, object of directive 90/496 / EEC.
In addition, the regulation establishes the means to guarantee food information, so that within the mandatory information on the food label, regardless of whether they are packaged or not, it should be indicated which ingredients can cause allergies or intolerances.
This regulation affects food business operators in all phases of the food chain. So it will apply to all food intended for the final consumer, including stationary or mobile food stalls, bars, restaurants, canteens, schools, hospitals and prepared food supply companies, in which, as a business activity, ready-made foods are prepared by the final consumer.
