Current European regulations require the labeling of all foods containing lupines and lupine-based products.
The lupine is a legume belonging to the same peanut family. The allergic reactions it causes can become serious such as anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. If the person is already allergic to other legumes, lupine consumption could trigger an allergic reaction at first contact.
Symptoms of a possible allergic reaction include hives, swelling of the lips, vomiting and difficulty breathing. You should go to a health center immediately to receive proper medical treatment.
Patients allergic to lupins may also be soya and peanut.
